mars 22 2009 | Petrobras signs agreements for the Northeast Refinery
Petrobras signed five major agreements, for the global amount of R$2.89 billion, for the construction of the Abreu e Lima Refinery (the Northeast Refinery) today (03/19).
The construction agreement encompasses all buildings, such as the administrative building, the Integrated Control Center, equipment maintenance and inspection workshops, warehouses, the product quality lab, security area buildings, in addition to the safety, environment and health, telecommunications, and industrial safety buildings. This agreement, worth R$591,324,229.09 and with a 638-day term, was signed with EIT and Engevix.
Two other agreements are for the construction of storage tanks. Lot I, worth R$527.5 million and with a 1115-day term, foresees the construction of 11 tanks with total capacity for a million cubic meters to store oil, intermediary products, and final products. Intermediary products are those that leave a unit and will still be treated in other ones until becoming finished products such as diesel fuel, naphtha, fuel oil, etc., which will supply the refinery’s customers. Techint, Usiminas, and Confab are parties to this agreement.
Lot II, for 63 tanks with total capacity for a million cubic meters, was signed with Alusa, Galvão and Tome. Worth R$730,750,000.00, this agreement’s term is for 1145 days.
Refinery substation electrical equipment and technical assistance devices for all deployment stages are part of the Global Electrical Agreement signed with Orteng. This agreement, worth R$269,536,530.12 and with a term of 1260 days, in addition to the gains in scale it will allow for, will also provide for the standardization of the plant’s electrical equipment and allow the vendor to incorporate its know-how to the project, improving final deployment quality and partial costs.
The Water Treatment Station is capable of processing 2,000 cubic meters of filtered water per hour and 400 tons of reprocessed per hour for industrial use. Enfil and Veolia will be in charge of building the station at a cost of R$774 million and in a term of 819 days.
The treatment process for the raw water which comes from the dams that supply the Suape industrial pole and the refinery involves filtering and chemical treatment. The water will be made available at different purity specifications:
Industrial water – only filtered and to be used basically for maintenance services.
Clarified water – to be used in process unit cooling systems.
Deionized water – pure water, free of all impurities, including dissolved salts, to be used to produce steam and in the hydrogen generation units.
The importance of these agreements for the deployment of the Abreu e Lima Refinery shows the proactive stance of Petrobras which, at a time of global crisis, believes in overcoming this scenario and is getting ready to take-on an important position in the global economy, maintaining its robust investment portfolio, generating thousands of jobs, and developing the national industry.
