fév. 19 2009 | Foster Wheeler to Supply Terrace-Wall(TM) Steam Reforming Furnace for BP's Chemicals Complex in the UK
Foster Wheeler AG announced that its UK-headquartered subsidiary Foster Wheeler Energy Limited, part of its Global Engineering and Construction Group, has been awarded a contract for the design and supply of a Terrace-Wall™ steam reforming furnace by BP Chemicals Ltd. The Terrace-Wall™ reformer will replace the existing reformer at BP’s chemicals complex at Saltend, near Hull, UK.
The Foster Wheeler contract value for this project was not disclosed and will be included in the company’s first-quarter 2009 bookings. Earlier releases of the work were included in bookings for the third and fourth quarters of 2008.
“We believe this award confirms the enduring commercial and operational advantages of our proprietary steam reforming furnace design. The ultra-low emissions that the reformer will be designed to achieve to comply with stringent environmental regulations illustrate the continuous improvement that underpins our Terrace-Wall™ technology,” said Michael J. Beaumont, chairman and chief executive officer of Foster Wheeler Energy Limited.
David Smith, general manager for BP’s acetyls business in Europe, added, “This is an important and significant investment for our business and demonstrates our commitment to remain a cost-competitive and reliable supplier of acetic acid to the European market.”
Foster Wheeler’s Terrace-Wall™ reformer is characterized by a firing arrangement and sloped-wall radiant section design that enable long catalyst and catalyst tube life, providing operational, reliability and cost benefits. Foster Wheeler has supplied over 200 Terrace-Wall™ steam reformers to the refining and petrochemical industries in more than 40 countries worldwide.
