janv. 30 2009 | Oiltanking starts the year 2009 with the acquisition of two chemical terminals from major chemical company
Oiltanking GmbH and The Dow Chemical Company have concluded the purchase agreements for DOW's Colombian Cartagena marine terminal and the Joliet, Illinois (USA) facility.
The purchase of the Cartagena marine terminal will add yet another position to Oiltanking’s terminal network in Latin America, and it marks the first terminal location in Colombia. The facility comprises a total tank capacity of 9,300 cbm (58,500 bbls), a deep water jetty with 8.8 meter (29 ft) draft and ample land for expansions. Located in the Mamonal Industrial area, centre of the petrochemical and oil activities of Cartagena, Oiltanking plans to soon enlarge the facility to serve a wider range of customers and products.
The Joliet Marine terminal, servicing the Mid-Continent of North America, is strategically located on the Illinois Waterway connecting the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. The terminal consists of 67 tanks, with a total capacity of 44,600 cbm (280,000 bbls), and similar to the Cartagena terminal, there is also substantial land for future expansions available. The 2 docks for river barges, the excellent truck and rail car handling facilities, as well as the proximity to several national interstates and railway lines will offer Oiltanking’s customer an ideal location for distributing their products to the wider Mid-Continent. This terminal is an excellent addition to our North American Network.
Oiltanking GmbH is a subsidiary of Marquard & Bahls AG, Germany, a leading privately owned petroleum company. Oiltanking is the second-largest independent tank storage provider for petroleum products, chemicals and gases world-wide. The company owns and operates 65 terminals in 21 countries within Europe, North and South America, Middle East, India as well as Asia. Oiltanking has an overall capacity of more than 14.5 million cbm (91 million bbls).
