2008 | ROLLS-ROYCE wins first central Europe contracts for industrial trent
Two of Central Europe’s leading electrical power providers are the first customers in the region for Rolls-Royce Trent 60 generating sets, which will provide peak-time electrical power to Bratislava in Slovakia and to Prostejov in the Czech Republic.
PPC Energy a.s., of Slovakia, and Moravia Energo in the Czech Republic have selected the Wet Low Emissions (WLE) version of the industrial Trent 60 engine to provide cleaner energy at a lower cost as part of their modernisation programmes.
Charlie Athanasia, Vice-President of Power Generation for the Rolls-Royce energy business said: "The industrial Trent has now been selected as the recommended gas turbine for power generation projects around the world.
“Project developers continue to express a high level of interest in the Trent with its high simple cycle efficiency and industry leading power density in its class. This translates into lower operating and installation costs as well as enhanced total life cycle value for our customers.”
The Moravia Energo installation, at a green field site southeast of Prague, will operate at times of peak demand, in addition to providing grid support.
The Trent 60 for PPC will be installed at an existing power station to provide 58,000kWe to Slovakia at times of peak demand, when electrical power is required quickly for short periods of time, up to three or four hours.
The Trent 60 engines will be manufactured at the Rolls-Royce plant in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and packaging of the generating sets will take place at the company’s Mount Vernon, Ohio facility.
Delivery of both units is scheduled for mid-2009, with the first electricity being produced during the first quarter of 2010.
