avri. 22 2008 | RWE Innogy awards contracts to Siemens for two wind farms in Poland
RWE Innogy awarded contracts to Siemens Energy for 33 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, which will be erected in Poland. The wind turbines are to be erected as part of the projects Suwalki in Masuria and Tychowo in Western Pomerania and are due to come on stream by autumn 2009. The combined contract volume for Siemens totals approx. € 100 million.
In addition to the supply of the 33 wind turbines with a total capacity of 76 MW, the contracts awarded to Siemens also comprise the erection and commissioning of the plants. RWE Innogy has also agreed a maintenance contract with Siemens for a period of five years. 18 wind turbines of the SWT-2.3-93 type will be deployed in the Suwalki wind farm, while 15 identical systems will be erected in the Tychowo wind farm. RWE Innogy is realising the project in cooperation with Polish Energy Partners S.A. Both wind farms are located at sites with particularly favourable wind conditions. Together they can produce approx. 185,000 MWh of electricity per year. This output is enough to supply more than 50,000 homes with electricity.
Kevin McCullough, COO of RWE Innogy: "The erection of these two wind farms is an important step for us with a view to expanding our position in Poland. We are happy to have Siemens as a reliable and competent partner on our side."
"The Polish wind power market will grow significantly in importance in the years ahead", said Andreas Neuen, head of Siemens Energy's wind power business. Siemens realised the importance of Poland as a future market for wind power early on, and we are pleased to erect two wind farms there for the first time on behalf of RWE."
In March of this year, RWE Innogy had also secured access to further wind power projects in Poland with a total volume of 200 MW. The relevant sites are located in Masuria and Pomerania. They are due to come on stream from 2010. Altogether, RWE will then have approx. 280 MW of installed wind power capacity in Poland at its disposal.
